In the DE lobbies this is exactly what happens. But it usually prevents quite reliably that a player with 500 matches of experience plays against someone who has played 3 matches and starts his games by building 6 houses and then send all vills to chop wood. I mean HD ELO isn't perfect by any means. Just play 10 random team games in the DE lobbies and then 10 random team games in the HD lobbies (where you try to get more or less balanced teams by ELO).Īfter this you'll see that you had 9/10 or 10/10 completely unbalanced games in DE and maybe 2/10 or 3/10 in HD. Well we don't really have to think about that because we actually have the comparison -) I also think that the idea visible ELOs would stop very one sided lobby games is frankly naiive For example villagers simply stopping their work, not walking where you send them etc. Quite a few weird bugs lead to unexpected behaviour in DE (well, HD is bugged too, but we are more familiar with those bugs and I also think there are not as many as in DE). So the raise in "beauty" came with a decrease in playability. It's easier to distinguish things in HD, it's easier to spot what's going on. While a lot of people will praise the "nicer" graphics of DE, a lot will also agree that the graphics in HD are more "practical". (On the other hand: ELO system in HD is bugged. More limited/unsatisfactory multiplayer in DE because there is no ELO shown in the lobbies (= high risk of completely unbalanced games) and because the matchmaking mode limits you in maps and settings (although matchmaking possibilities have improved with the December update) I currently feel that HD is still ahead overall. Overall my experiences with DE are great. I can't really say anything about the rating, lobby and map pool system, I haven't played any competitive matches. Less forgotten villagers, monks and so on.Īs for the multiplayer, I haven't been able to play too many games (about 5-6 black forest games against the AI), but I haven't encountered any problems. Some scenarios: Specific build order, Go back to collecting resources after building is finished, Carry back the relic after picked up, etc. It's easier to manage the economy, but it doesn't make the game itself easier, since you still need to plan ahead.

Sure I'm not a pro player, and some people may disagree with me about it's importance, but this feature makes the game feel much "smarter". You can create (compared to HD) quite complex queues which can improve the efficiency by a ton. But what really stands out for me is the unit command queuing. People keep mentioning auto reseeding farms and fish traps. This is probably the biggest reason why I couldn't go back to HD. The QoL changes are very important as well. The new AI is very smart, and can be challenging to play against them (we usually play 2v4-5 against hardest) I really enjoy playing them, even for the millionth time. The campaigns have been reworked with new narrations, and very slight changes to the gameplay. They look the same, it's very hard to tell them apart for me. The only thing about the graphics what I don't like is the ship icons. And the new graphics as gorgeous, with buttery smooth animations. I don't have any issues with distinguishing units and buildings and such. It doesn't matter if it's DE or HD, what I see is Age of Empires 2. Now if I look at an AoE clip, my mind doesn't get confused about what I'm seeing. The new graphics were a bit overwhelming at first, but after about 1-2 hours of gameplay, it was perfect.

I currently feel that there is no reason for me to play HD.

I'm a mid level player, who plays casually.

I mainly play singleplayer and multiplayer VS AI-s. r/projectceleste - Age of Empires Online Official Forums - Bug Reporting/Ask for HelpĪrchive of Old/Inactive Channels - WIP - here Other AoE Communities Microsoft Store - AoE2 Definitive Edition.Head online to challenge other players with 35 different civilizations in your quest for world domination throughout the ages.Ĭhoose your path to greatness with this definitive remaster to one of the most beloved strategy games of all time.No streams are currently live.\n Play Online Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular strategy games ever with stunning 4K Ultra HD graphics, a new and fully remastered soundtrack, and brand-new content, “The Last Khans” with 3 new campaigns and 4 new civilizations.Įxplore all the original campaigns like never before as well as the best-selling expansions, spanning over 200 hours of gameplay and 1,000 years of human history.
